Computer Science

Computer Science is the study of computers and computational systems. It is a broad field that encompasses everything from the algorithms that make up software to how software interacts with hardware to how software is developed and designed. Computer scientists use mathematical algorithms, coding procedures, and programming skills to study computer processes and create new software and systems. Knowing how to program is an important part of Computer Science, but it is only one element of the field. Computer scientists also design and analyze algorithms to solve problems and study the performance of computer hardware and software. The main areas of study within Computer Science include artificial intelligence, computer systems and networks, security, database systems, human-computer interaction, vision and graphics, numerical analysis, programming languages, software engineering, bioinformatics, and theory of computing. Computer Science has strong mathematical and engineering roots. Computer Science degrees cover various specialist and vocational degrees related to computers and technology. Core Computer Science courses include theory of computation, fundamentals of computer science, compilers and operating systems, information theory, basic programming, systems and architecture, software development and testing, web applications and databases, algorithms and data structures, and principles of computer hardware. Computer Science is closely related to computer programming. It focuses on methods involved in the design, specification, programming, verification, implementation, and testing of human-made computing systems. In addition to the traditional study of computer architecture, programming languages, and software development, Computer Science also includes computational science, graphics and visualization, human-computer interaction, database systems, parallel computation, distributed computation, artificial intelligence, computer networking and communication, operating systems, and numerical and symbolic computation. ▼▲
